Crown FAQ for "Small Group" classes

Questions about "Small Group" classes

How long does the class last?

There are 10 class sessions. See the class schedule for dates.

Will I receive investment advice?

No, each leader takes a pledge not to push investment products. Students are lead to make lifestyle changes to implement savings programs. Advice on how to invest is beyond the scope of the class.

Will there be homework?

Yes. Your outside of class work will require about 2 hours per week.

Will there be referrals or products offered?

No, except for a budgeting program offered by Crown. Paper forms for budgeting are provided as part of the class. Crown offers a PC based and a web based software package that is similar to Microsoft Money or Quicken. Crown’s products offers some good advantages, however, these products are not even discussed in class.

Will my name or email address be shared?

Your information is only used by your leaders to coordinate class activities.

How big are the classes?

Crown “Small Group” classes are limited to 8 students and two certified instructors.

If I miss a class can I attend different class to catch up?

There is not a way provided to make up classes. You can minimize the loss by doing your homework and calling the class leader to repeat your memory verse.

What if I am late to class?

Please call one of the two class leaders to warn them that you will be late.

Can I choose which class that I will attend?

You can choose the day of the week and the time. Class assignments are first come, first served where church members are given first priority over non church members. You are registered when paid. We will register students until we run out of certified instructors to lead the class.

Can I attend class if my homework is not done?

Yes, however we observe rules outlined by Crown. If you cannot repeat your memory verse or show that your homework is complete, then you cannot verbally contribute. You should plan to attend to learn the lesson material.

What if I miss several classes?

Your spot will still be there for all 10 class sessions. Each week the subject is new. You will be welcomed back. Your leaders will be calling you to give you encouragement.

Can others who are not FUMCC members attend the class?

Yes. However, we will register FUMCC members first. Much depends on class availability, which depends upon how many certified leaders are available.

Will I be expected to reveal my financial situation?

No. Your budget, income and financial situation is not discussed. You will be asked to prepare a budget so that you can manage your finances. The actual content is your business.

What about the class leaders?

They will be church members who have gone through Crown “Small Group” certification. They just might be students who completed an earlier class. They may not be assigned to a certain date/dime until that class has filled up. Please respect them. This is their ministry to you. Their commitment is for your benefit. They are doing this because they believe that God has a better way than the ways of the world.

Can I take the class again if I drop out?

Yes.

Will this class require me to tithe?

We teach God’s word and techniques, so that your finances will work for you rather than you working for your finances.

What have others found to be the most difficult part of this class?

The homework.

Are the principals advocated in this class based upon the Bible?

Absolutely. 100%.

Will I be expected to share or can I just sit and listen?

This is not like some classes where you can just sit and not be noticed. You and 7 other people in the “Small Group” will all actively participate. If you are shy, you will be loved.

Are the leaders certified to teach Crown?

Yes. Leaders are taught to stay on the Crown established guidelines. From thousands of other churches across the USA, Crown has learned what works best. This is the format your leader will be taught to follow.

What will be my out of pocket expense?

There is a one time fee to take the class. Your church uses this money to purchase your class materials. You will keep those class materials. Your budgeting can be done on a paper system but many find it easier to use Quicken or Money software systems on a PC. Crown offers two such software products. If you choose to use your PC to track your budget then the Crown products are one of the choices.

What if I cannot afford the fees to take the training?

Call the church office.

Must my spouse attend with me?

One of the many benefits of this class is to bring couples into a unity of thought or approach to the family finances. If handling of money is a major source of divorce then it just makes sense for couples to begin to think alike. Testimonies reveal that stresses in marriages are relieved when both begin to follow God’s plan. Everyone will be encouraged to focus on God rather than satisfying self. This brings unity.

What if I miss registration deadline?

There is always next semester.

What is the success rate of those taking this class?

Another section of this web material is called “Crown Testimonies.” Read what your fellow church members have to say about their experiences.

But, our situation is different. We are sinking in our debt. How can taking a class bring in more money?

Others have taken this class with similar circumstances. They are the folks with the most glowing testimony. This class is not the quick fix, it is long term change of approach to handling money. It can work for you too.

How do I sign up?

Go to the registration table when signups are offered for small groups.
