Missions Week

Sunday, February 28, 2010 - Sunday, March 07, 2010

Matthew 22:36-40 would be summed up by many as "Love God, Love People." The question the church has faced since its inception then is how to do just that. This point even becomes more of a focus when discussing a church's missional involvement. Specifically how we are to love people.

This year we are going to take a week to focus on how we are called as a church to love the last, the lost, the least and the lowly. How we are to show God's Mercy to the world.

According to John Wesley, the "missiological nature of the gospel expressed itself in three primary movements - regeneration of the lost, renewal of the church and reform of the nation." In other words what Wesley would hint at is that true, long lasting and effective mission and social ministry happen when one is motivated by Spirit breathed attitudes which can only come from a genuine relationship with Christ. Therefore the mission of the church must be to couple sharing the gospel alongside meeting the individual's physical needs. Showing God's mercy is showing His heart for their spiritual and physical well-being.

Sunday, February 28 - John W. Zumwalt will speak in the morning services.

Author of Passion for the Heart of God, John Zumwalt is the founder of Heart of God Ministries and the director of HGM's Missionary Training Institute, Beautiful Feet Boot Camp. John travels widely, preaching and holding seminars. His responsibilities also include overseeing missionaries in "closed" countries.  He and his wife, Jamie, have five children, Jessica, Josiah, Jael, Jewel, and James.

Feed My Starving Children MobilePack Days

Friday, March 05, 2010, 12:00 PM - Sunday, March 07, 2010, 6:00 PM

This event is put on by Feed My Starving Children, which is in the midwest. To learn more about them, visit www.fmsc.org.  To learn more about this event and how you can be involved, visit fmscdallas.blogspot.com

MobilePack Days are a gathering of people from all over the community in 2-hour shifts.  The food that we pack and send is a packet of rice, soy protein, dehydrated vegetables, and vitamin-fortified chicken flavoring that has been engineered by dieticians to be exactly what an undernourished child needs.

Each meal costs only 17 cents, so to cover the cost of the meals that we will be packing, we will need to raise about $46,000.

The food is distributed by FMSC to pre-existing, local organizations worldwide. They give to places such as clinics, refugee camps, missions organizations, etc. FMSC personally visits each distribution point to make sure that they are what they appear to be, and that the food is being used for its intended purpose.

Children/Youth are welcome! Packing meals is fun and high-energy but is feasible for anyone. Over 50% of the meals that FMSC sends out each year are packed by volunteers under the age of 18.

If each volunteer provides $40, the cost of the meals will be covered.  Here are some ideas for raising your share!
