Reaching Out

Rev. Keva Green, Associate Pastor, heads up the following ministries.  Please contact Keva () if you would like to serve with the ministry or if you need ministry.

 

First Love Benevolence:

An assistance ministry to people who are needing financial help.  Trained members interview those people who are requesting support and schedule an appointment with the Associate Pastor.  A personal appointment addresses the person’s needs spiritually and physically.  Needs are evaluated and a ONE-time gift is provided as needed.

 

Visitation Teams:    

Those with a heart for sharing their faith and offering a welcome & information to our First Time Guests.  Visitation takes place on Sunday afternoons.

Angel Tree Ministry:

A ministry to specific children at Christmas, who have a parent who is incarcerated.    Gifts to the children of inmates are purchased by church members and given as if they are coming from the parent to their child.  Names are selected.  Gifts are brought to the church and distributed to the families.  Sharing the Christ of Christmas to children whose families cannot -- In addition to the Christmas emphasis, Angel Tree offers ministry & mentoring opportunities.

 

Boy Scouts:

Scouting is an outreach to boys in the community and offers the scouting experience to these young boys & men.  Boy Scout Troop 121 was chartered by First United Methodist Church Carrollton, over 50 years ago.  Troop 121 has two Cub Scout Dens, #8 and Den #14.   Also under the First Church umbrella are Pack 121 and Pack 492.

 

Christian Awareness Team

Christian Awareness Team ( C.A.T. is a team that serves as a communiqué to our members, keeping them informed about current issues involving legislative action and positive Christian actions on social issues of the day.  Oversees our connection to Pro Life, Advocacy & Pregnancy Center, and Christian Action Groups.

 

Feed My Starving Children:

A ministry effort in conjunction with the non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's starving children hungry in body and spirit.  Packaging and distribution events are scheduled to provide meals for children around the world.  Abbey Daniels () is the contact person for Feed My Starving Children.

 

First Friends Lunch with the Pastor & Staff:

The First Friends Team is a group of church members that welcome our Guests and assist them as they are searching for a place at First Church and possibly a new church home.   The First Friends Team sends an invitation from the Pastor & Staff, to attend a Lunch at the church a designated Sunday.  A casual meal is provided and an opportunity to hear from the pastor and meet members and some of the church staff on a personal level.  Lunches take place in the Fellowship Hall following the morning services.

 

Focus On Health:

  • Blood DriveSponsored by Carter Blood Care, an annual drive offers donations to be given a convenient time and location for a Sunday morning – additional drives, as scheduled.
  • Immunizations:  Immunizations are provided to our church members on a Sunday morning:  Flu, Pneumonia, H1N1, and other pre-ordered immunizations are available and administered by technicians from an area Pharmacy at a standard cost and a convenient time.

 

Future Generations:

A Christian Self-Defense class that develops discipline and respect, with loving acceptance & accountability.  Open to the community with the desire to bring all children to Christ.   For ages 10 and up.  Scholarships available on a needs basis.  Tuesday & Thursday evenings 6:30–7:30pm.

 

Grace Toastmasters:

A ministry built on the renowned Toastmasters International –a self-paced, self-improvement educational training to develop effective communication skills and confident public speaking.   Reaching out to people in the community, meetings take place from 7-8:00 AM on Thursday mornings in the Church Library.  Provides preparation and confidence to speak and ultimately share their personal faith effectively.   Speechcraft classes & competitions as scheduled.

 

Greet the Troops:

An opportunity to meet the men & women in our Armed Forces as they arrive at the DFW airport – returning home or coming home on leave.   If you are interested in greeting & “cheering on” our troops at the DFW Terminal B Gate 37, call 972-574-0392 for flight arrival information.

 

Jail Ministry:

A group meets on the 5th Sunday of the month at the Lew Sterret Facility in Dallas, County, from 1:30- 4:l30pm to visit prisoners.  The Lew Sterret Jail is a holding facility where inmates are held temporarily before being reassigned to other prisons.   This provides a way to reach men and women inmates, at a critical time in their lives -- Sharing a personal Christ -- a Bible lesson and showing God’s love.  It is an awesome experience to feed the spiritually hungry and an opportunity to lead them to the Lord.

 

Kairos Ministry:

Kairos is the Emmaus 72 hour spiritual weekend experience provided for inmates in the prison system.  Coordinated through the Emmaus Ministry.

 

Relief Work:

An outreach to regions of the country who are victims of natural disasters.  Work trips include clearing and building projects.  Coordinated by the Men’s Ministry.

 

Sidewalk Ministry:

A  ministry to the underprivileged children & their families of the CarrolltonNorth Dallas area, on Saturday mornings.  The love of Christ is shared through a fun & interactive “Sunday School experience” – Taking the love of Jesus to the actual sidewalks of our community.    Special annual Christmas Dinner celebrates the Birth of Christ.
