This week we have FOUR different groups going to FOUR different continents on mission trips from First Church.
A group will be going to London to do some children's, youth, and adult ministry there and to investigate how to be involved in the future with our youth.
A group will be going to Cambodia to dedicate the new church building that we were able to fund as a bonus from the funds left over from the O'Khmom building!
A group will be going to Colombia to minister to the street kids there and to help with the ongoing ministry in Bogota.
And a group will be going to Cape Town, South Africa, to visit ministry partners and to see how to be involved in hunger relief ministry in the future.

Below is an update on the trips coming up in 2011. I don't have cost information at this time for these trips, but please email for more information.
A few things have changed about the requirements for going on a trip with First Church:
1. Each member wanting to take part in a trip will be required to fill out an application that will take place in two parts - one initial part and then a second part after you have been approved to go on the trip. We are starting to have to limit the number of people to go on each trip - what a great problem to have!
2. Those wanting to join a mission trip team will also be required to attend a Missions Training course to be scheduled in late October or early November. Another course will be offered ...

Tickets are being bought soon for the Cambodia mission trip! At the meeting this past Sunday discussing details of the trip, it was decided that the dates have been changed from late July to August 5-14, 2010.

For those of you that don't know, this year's trip to Colombia left last weekend. Here is an update from Mike Patzig about the trip:
The plane that Jeff and Mike were on got diverted to Atlanta, and they ended up flying the last leg to Bogota on the same flight as everyone else !
They had a great time Saturday at the Jungle (the new label for The Other Way from the Big Foot project) with about 60 Kids.
Sunday: They traveled across town (1 1/2 hours) to visit a lady (Mary) who runs a drop-in school in a Squatter's town (very poor area). We are very interesting to the folks who are on the outskirts of the city, and are treated like movie stars - they reported having a great time.

El Paso:OctoberThis trip has its first informational meeting Sunday, August 2, after church in the library. Exact dates will be decided by the group. Ministry will be to the physically and spiritually poor of this region through volunteering with several homeless shelters and community centers. This will be a short trip - about 4 days - and inexpensive - airfare plus $100 for ministry expense. No heavy construction involved. Contact Susan Sublett at .
