Small Group Challenge

Richard made a statement in a sermon about the Radical book saying, "wouldn't it be cool to raise money to build a church in Cambodia?" Our small group took that to heart and have decided to do just that. We have made the goal to save/raise $5,000 by the end of the year to build a small church in Cambodia. We have already done a bake sale at the dance studio I work at. We are planning on having a garage sale soon. We are also contributing what money we can as well as planning other fund raising activities. This is how we are trying to sacrifice our money (and time) for a specific purpose.

Abbey

A group of us from throughout the church have found a great way to respond to our study of Radical. We have signed up to join in with the refugee ministry that is currently going on in Lewisville to the Chin people from Burma. This is a commitment that falls within the last two areas of David Platt's challenge mostly - to sacrifice our money for a specific purpose (monetary giving is not required for refugee ministry, but we have committed to a willingness as needs are made evident), and to give our time in another context.  The Chin people come here with one suitcase, no English, no experience with money or paperwork or so many other parts of daily life in America, and they get only a tiny bit of government assistance for a very ...

Bo and Joanne

David Platt's Radical touched my soul in many ways. First, he was displaced by Hurricane Katrina and makes several references about God providing even in the family's darkest hours. This is true faith! I also think some childhood friends now living in Birmingham, Ala., may attend his church and are enthralled by the simple message of "do something radical: to get out of the usual faith 'box.'" Rev. Platt's overseas mission trips and care for the remaining people of New Orleans and the many underserved families in Birmingham gives testimony to his living out of the principles of Radical.
