I wish I had a camera!
Did you see the sunrise this morning? It was incredible. Just when you thought it was the prettiest thing you had ever seen, then God would add even more colors and make it even more spectacular. I had the privilege of watching it from the very first glow until it morphed into this fabulous fiery gift spread across the sky. I was out for my morning run and I just wanted to keep running east so that I would not miss a moment of it. I finally realized I had to turn around and head back to the house or I would never make it to the office on time. And then even as I headed back I kept looking over my shoulder to get a glimpse of God’s masterpiece. (I even ran backwards for a while, but realized that is not the best thing to do as traffic is starting to pick up.) Oh, how I wished I had a camera so I could capture God’s wonder.
But God is always showing off like that if we would just notice. Last night the sunset was beautiful. I needed to hurry up and get back to church for the children’s program and the potluck dinner, but instead I had to just spend some time watching all that was going on in the sky. When I got to church I asked a couple of people if they had seen the sunset, but no one had. (A couple of people told me they were trying to watch the last few minutes of the Dallas Cowboys. Glad they won, but God’s show in the sky was so much better.)
If you ask me what my favorite things are I would quickly list sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, bluebirds, red birds, and purple flowers. All of those things just make me catch my breath and thank God for sharing his wonders with me.
Last night watching the children’s Christmas program was another time to just sit amazed and awed by God’s creation. What adorable and precious children! There were those who stood tall and said their lines perfectly and sang beautifully and equally fun to watch were those precious ones who wanted to just sit down and take their shoes off and make faces at the audience. Oh how I wished for a camera that I could focus in on those sweet faces in all their glory…or I guess all in God’s glory. Add children to the first of my list – could there be anything more fun to watch and praise God for.
Lord, thank you for all that you do all around us every moment of the day. Forgive me when I get so busy with life that I miss your performance in the sky, in nature around us, and especially when I miss seeing your glory in the people you have placed in my life.
